How I Built My Website (Without Knowing How to Code)

Updates

One of the questions I get asked most, aside from "where did you find that?" after a charity shop haul, is how I set up this website. So I thought I'd do a little post about it, because honestly, it has a bit of a story behind it.

The WordPress Days

When I first started The Monday Corner, I had a WordPress site. It did the job, but it was a constant headache, updates, plugins breaking, trying to make videos look right on the page. I spent more time fiddling with the website than actually making content. I just wanted somewhere to share my hobbies, not become a web developer.

My husband Jonathan is the techy one in our house, and he got so fed up watching me wrestle with WordPress that he said "I'll just build you something." And he actually did. He built the whole thing from scratch specifically around how YouTube creators use a website, videos front and centre, everything syncing automatically, no plugins to worry about.

From My Site to a Platform

What started as a website just for me eventually turned into TubeCMS a proper platform that any YouTube creator can use. So yes, I'm slightly biased, but I was also the very first user and the reason it exists in the first place! Everything that annoyed me about WordPress is what shaped how TubeCMS works.

The best bit? I connect my YouTube channel and every time I upload a new video, it just appears on my site. No copying links, no embedding, no faffing about. It just works.

The Bits I Like

  • It syncs with YouTube - new videos just appear automatically

  • The blog - I can write longer posts like this one to go alongside my videos

  • It's simple - no plugins, no updates, nothing breaking randomly

  • My own domain - having themondaycorner.co.uk feels much more professional than just a YouTube link

  • I can actually use it - I'm not a tech person and I don't need to be

Would I Recommend It?

Obviously I'm going to say yes, but genuinely, if you're a YouTube creator and you've been thinking about having your own website but don't know where to start, it's free to get started and you don't need to know anything technical. I certainly didn't. I just had a very patient husband.

If you do set one up, let me know, I'd love to have a nosy at your site!

Lorna x

Disclosure: TubeCMS was built by my husband, I'm biased but everything here is my genuine experience.
